Dear Jin Shin Jyutsu¨ Students,
From the moment Pamela Markarian Smith was introduced to Jin Shin Jyutsu® in the early 1960's, she saw the wisdom and humanistic value of living one's life through the understanding of this art and philosophy. Pamela has spent her life promoting the Art, working for many years with Mary Burmeister, who later built the organization, Jin Shin Jyutsu, Inc.,® acting as a coordinator for the Santa Rosa, CA lecture series which was given by Mary from 1974-1990. Teaching Self-Help and Introductory Classes to interested students in preparation for Mary's visits, giving follow-up classes to students, answering questions and mentoring an ever enlarging Jin Shin community prepared Pamela for the next phase of her work. In 1989, she was chosen, along with Philomena Dooley, Muriel Carlton, and Wayne Hackett to be one of the original four teachers that would fill the increasing demand for Jin Shin Jyutsu® classes throughout the US and around the world. In 1992, her path led to the creation of the Jin Shin Institute®, Santa Rosa, CA, a place to further explore and share the vast understanding of Jin Shin Jyutsu®.
As Pamela's practice grew, it became obvious that more and more students and practitioners wanted a deeper understanding of the Art. In response to the concern expressed by many students, about the continuing expense of time and travel to attend the classes as they were currently being offered, she decided to put all her years of study, research and practice into books and video programs. To assist the advancement of the understanding of the students, she had a "vision" of providing a readily available lecture series. The "Trinity Class" was video taped live in Santa Rosa, CA. (Pamela's Self-Help video available since '98 is a product of video preparation for the Trinity Class). It was prophetic in timing for soon after the filming, she incurred visual challenges due to a hereditary circulatory pathology, the same from which her brother, Al died of at an early age, which limits her ability to continue teaching. As long as Pamela is able, she will continue to follow her "vision", ever expanding the work to provide for those who wish it; affordable, readily accessible material and information in the Art of Jin Shin as it was passed down by Mary Burmeister, her beloved teacher, and Mary's teacher, Master Jiro Murai of Japan.
The "Trinity Class" is structured from Pamela's understanding of The Trinity Pattern and Energy Movement, the Spiritual Source for the understanding of Body-Mind-Spirit that we call Jin Shin Jyutsu®. A strong emphasis is placed on the primary importance of the three main flow patterns that make up the Universal Trinity Pattern: the Fatigue Adjustment Flow, the Number Flows, the 12 Organ Flows and the elements that combine to create life. All things develop from the Trinity Pattern for Creation - Main Center Source, the Left and Right Major Supervisor, and the Activating Principle for movement (Diagonal Mediator).
An accompanying Reference Handbook is provided to bridge the "experiential gap" created by your not actually "being" in the classroom lecture. A subject will be introduced, and reintroduced throughout the video DVD program, constantly weaving in and out of the threads of Jin Shin. Pamela admits she does not think or lecture in a linear manner. But please stay loose and enjoy. Reading assignments will be noted in each "Session" of the Handbook to assist you as you follow along with the lecture. You are encouraged to freeze frame diagrams and/or board work for note taking so you can reference them during the lecture. Graphics located in the Books are referenced in the Handbook. The Reference Handbook includes a guideline for a complete treatment session, how to begin and end a treatment, how to use body sighting/reading signs and body scanning to verify and clarify pulse information, plus how to finish a treatment session using special neck work techniques is included.
The information is the same and its application in treatment is consistent with the instruction given by Jin Shin Jyutsu, Inc®. The source of the material presented comes from over 35 years of dedicated study/mentoring with Mary Burmeister (in early 1960's -1991) and the valuable understanding received from treating others for over three decades. Through researching the Kojiki, and consolidating the many years of notes and priceless pieces of information Mary shared, Pamela has continued to seek a greater understanding of this art which she values more than life itself.
There are many ways to share Jin Shin. No one person will ever completely experience it in the same way; we are all individual souls with different evolving awarenesses. Having said that, the most important thing we must honor is the preservation and integrity of the Art and the body of work Mary translated from Master Jiro Murai, and the wisdom and philosophy of the Body-Mind-Spirit connection Jiro rediscovered. Pamela is grateful for the understanding of life through following The Ancient Spiritual Teachings. This brought her to Jin Shin Jyutsu®, and guided her life, and now is what she can share with you.
May you find peace and a sense of much well being as you continue in the study of Jin Shin Jyutsu®. May the blessings from Source continue to rejuvenate you to be well in mind, body and spirit as you live your daily life.
Offered in loving kindness, Pamela Markarian Smith.
